E-bikes are getting more and more popular! Whether it is for your daily commute, to protect yourself from COVID and other viruses by avoiding public transport or just for fun and because you’re really passionate about riding, one thing is for certain: e-bikes are shaping the future of mobility all over the world. And for those who are not convinced yet, let me guide you through the most common myths about e-bikes and why they are just that: myths!
1) Riding an e-bike is like cheating
This is probably the main argument you’re gonna get regarding the e-bikes haters: the electric bike is just doing all the work for you. Well, guess what? That’s simply not true. Indeed, an e-bike is pedal-assisted, which means that they run with the help of a small electric motor to boost the power that is created by your own pedalling. That’s right! It’s because YOU pedal that the bike is moving, only boosted by the power of the electric motor. So it looks like you can even get fit and improve your cardio by riding an e-bike.
2) E-bikes don’t go very far
The good thing about e-bikes is they go as far as you want them to, because you control the amount of help you get from the electric motor… But, okay, that’s obviously not what you want to read here. The most important thing when choosing your e-bike is to make sure that the battery is going to be able to go the distance you want it to! Luckily for you, here at 50 Rebels we have found the finest battery cells on the market, which means you should be able to ride your e-bike for 60 to 80km. Sounds far enough to me!
3) E-bikes are pricey and same goes for the costs of repairs
If you compare the costs of other classic vehicles like motorcycles, cars and so on, buying an electric bike is actually going to help you save some money! Just think about the money you’ll save with petrol bills, insurance and taxes... The list goes on! And of course, when it comes to the costs of repair of your e-bike, as long as you take good care of it and are cautious about maintenance, this shouldn’t be an issue. There’s not much more upkeep involved than that of a standard bicycle. Besides, 50 Rebels bikes are built to last, with high-end components (and don’t forget that we’re also always here to help you out when you need us to!) and you can also benefit from subsidies and help from the government when you switch to electric.
4) E-bikes are heavy
When it comes to electric bikes, they are indeed heavier than regular bikes but remember that you’re going to feel the weight of your bike the most when you’re climbing hills or steep roads. That’s the reason why riding an e-bike is actually going to make your effort feel lighter than with a traditional bike because of the motor assistance. So, in the end, the pedelec totally makes up for the additional weight of your bike.
5) E-bikes don’t last
Last but not least, the idea that e-bikes don’t last as long as common bicycles is clearly a myth because electric bikes are just as reliable as a standard bicycle. The lifespan of a bike depends only on how well you take care of it and how you treat it. If you leave it out in the rain, of course, over time performance will be affected but if you care for it, then there’s no reason your e-bike can’t last. Besides, remember that electric energy and alternative sources of power are the future. When it comes to shaping tomorrow, there’s one thing for sure: your e-bike is not going out of fashion anytime soon!
